Midwest Prototyping Announces AS9100 Certification

Cites Aerospace Standard as “critical step forward” in Digital Manufacturing with the AS9100 Certification.

BLUE MOUNDS, WI – Midwest Prototyping, LLC, announced today its AS9100 certification, the standard of operational excellence required for aviation and aerospace suppliers. As one of the United States’ largest independent additive manufacturing service bureaus, the Wisconsin-based company is now able to manufacture flight-ready components on all its 3D printing technologies.  The certification covers each of its production facilities.

“By achieving the AS9100 certification, we’ve opened up a new avenue for digital manufacturing – we can provide our technologies and expertise directly to aviation and aerospace companies of all sizes,” said Steve Grundahl, President and founder of Midwest Prototyping. “We see this certification as a critical step forward to developing true digital manufacturing solutions for our customers.”

Aviation-focused manufacturers and suppliers seeking providers with AS9100 certification will be able to utilize all services offered at Midwest Prototyping.

Midwest Prototyping offers six distinct 3D printing processes, as well as its finishing and post-processing, urethane casting and CNC machining services. This includes large-frame selective laser sintering and stereolithography systems, Digital Light Synthesis, Fused Deposition Modeling, Multi Jet Fusion, and PolyJet technologies, at facilities in both Wisconsin and Colorado.

The AS9100 Rev. D certification for Midwest Prototyping builds onto its ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System. In 2017, Midwest Prototyping became the first independent additive manufacturing service bureau to achieve the ISO 9001:2015 Standard, the most modern version of the standard. Nate Schumacher, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Midwest Prototyping, oversaw both the AS9100 Rev. D and ISO 9001:2015 implementations.

“The AS9100 D certification process examines our entire operation. From the moment we quote a project or purchase raw material, to the finished product and the way we ship an order, our customers can have even more confidence in the quality of our work,” explained Schumacher. “I’m extremely proud of our team and their efforts to bring our organization to the next level and the benefits this program brings to both Midwest Prototyping and our customers.”

National Quality Associates, Inc., an independent accredited registrar, verified Midwest Prototyping’s compliance to the standard. Midwest Prototyping would like to acknowledge the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP) for providing advisory services during the AS9100 certification process.
